Does HRT or hormonal contraception affect the blood tests?

Female Hormone Tests

Our Female Hormone Mapping test cannot be taken by women using HRT or Hormonal Contraception as the test only works for women having a natural menstrual cycle. This is because a blood sample needs to be taken on day 14 and day 21 of a woman's period.

Our Female Hormone test can be taken if you are using hormonal contraception.

Our Menopause Check test is ideal for women on HRT.

If you have ordered any of our hormone tests and are taking a form of HRT this will affect your results depending on the hormones you are taking. If you are using a hormone gel such as oestradiol or testosterone, please ensure you scrub your hands and fingertips thoroughly before collecting your blood sample. Residue from the gels can remain on your skin and this will cause a very large increase in your result.

General Tests

If you've ordered any of our other tests that do not include hormones, then taking HRT or hormonal contraception will not affect your results.
